Huynh Huynh Situation at Tet

Author: Gina Huynh

This is an amazing and heartwarming introduction to Tết. Featuring the Huỳnh family as they prepare for and celebrate Tết, the Vietnamese New Year. The story follows Minh and his sister Kim as they celebrate with their family and grandparents visiting from Vietnam. They decorate with blossoms, clean the house to sweep away bad luck and prepare delicious dishes like bánh tét. The writing is excellent and perfectly weaves cultural education into the story, as the twins explain Tết to their curious friends and invite them to join the festivities. It highlights family bonds, cultural pride, and the joys of sharing traditions, culminating in a colorful celebration complete with firecrackers, karaoke, and the exchange of lucky money envelopes (lì xì). This is a must have for teachers! The illustrations are very professional and match the text beautifully. The story promotes inclusivity and highlights the value of tradition in an increasingly globalized world. Wonderful if you celebrate Tết but also a perfect read for fostering cultural understanding and introducing Tết in a classroom setting. There’s a glossary at the end featuring key Vietnamese words, adding an educational element and something for teachers to expand on. Definitely recommend adding this to your library!! @ginahuynhauthor www.ginahuynauthor.com
