The Ninjabread Man

By: C. J. Leigh

Here’s a fun twist on a classic story. Honestly, you had me at Ninjabread Man. 😂 About a little old sensei who taught ninjas in a hidden dojo. One day, the sensei decided to bake Ninjabread for his students. It’s an age old recipe passed down from sensei to sensei. It takes a lifetime to master and once baked the cookies contain many mysterious powers. Sensei shaped the ninja bread into a tiny sword and throwing stars, and also crafted a little ninja bread, man. Finally, when it was cooked Sensei opened the door and … out jumped the Ninjabread Man! Sensei sounded the gong and warned his ninjas that the ninja bread man was loose and that tonight they are to face their greatest challenge. One by one each student tries to face down the ninja bread man and loses, until finally he comes face-to-face with the Ninja Fox who cleverly tricks the Ninja Bread Man into coming closer and closer. Then the fox quickly gobbles him up. I love a creative spin on an old classic. The best way to describe this book would be, gingerbread man meets kung fu panda. You can’t really go wrong with that, ninjas are cool! The illustrations are outstanding, and the repetitive nature of the text makes it really fun for reading with groups. Also in the back of the book there’s a recipe, so you can make your own Ninjabread man… but be careful, if you bake them just right, they’re hard to catch! 😂 It’s a great book, definitely worth checking out!
