The little nurse: Liana's airplane adventure
Author: E. Levit
About a small but brave puppy named Percy, who is tasked with guarding the chicken coop on a farm. Despite his tiny size and quiet bark, Percy is determined to protect the hens from a sly fox that lurks nearby. The farm animals, including the hens, doubt Percy’s ability to keep them safe, especially with such a formidable predator on the loose. As the fox gets closer, Mother Hen searches the farm for stronger, more capable animals to help, but none are able or willing to take on the task. When the fox finally makes its move, Percy courageously barks, and his shadow is magnified by the moonlight, scaring the fox away. The hens are saved, and Percy has proven that bravery and courage come from within, regardless of size. The story conveys a powerful message about courage and not underestimating others. Also the artwork is beautifully done! The illustrations are obviously very professional and beautifully presented. This is basically everything I look for in a book, it ticks all the boxes… it’s entertaining and well written, has great illustrations, and has an important message that’s easy to understand. Our students loved it and I’m super happy to add this to our children’s bookshelf. Highly recommend adding this one to your collection too, you will not be disappointed!

The little nurse: Liana and the Red Dragon
Author: E. Levit
Another great book from “The little nurse series“ by E. Levit. This series centers on Liana, a caring and imaginative 4-year-old girl who loves helping others. In this story Liana stumbles upon a small dragon named Ruby who has an injured wing. Liana decides to help the dragon recover and cares for Ruby, nursing the dragon back to health. When Ruby was healthy, she nuzzled Liana and happily flew in circles showing her appreciation. Leanna was happy to help and waved her new friend goodbye. The Kindergarten kidsloved this. The illustrations are adorable, the kids loved the dragon. This story is a great example of how even small acts of care and kindness, can make a big difference to others. I love books that emphasize empathy, as showing compassion to animals. The books in this series is perfect for younger kids… they have good illustrations, they are simple, not too long and each have a very positive message about helping others. These books are both useful in the classroom and make for perfect little bedtime stories. Check out “The little nurse series“ by E. Levit.

Along their way, they introduce the cubs to various animal friends, including the Zebra and the gentle, often misunderstood hippo called Henry. Kyle The Affectionate Kangaroo
Author: Shane Gorman
Tells the story of Kylie, a kind-hearted kangaroo who feels misunderstood due to her association with other “angry” Red Kangaroos. Determined to show her affectionate side, Kylie sets out to help various animals who also struggle with expressing their affection. Kylie befriends a series of animals like Ekka the Echidna, Mabo the Mud Crab, Olivia the Blue-Ringed Octopus etc. Each animal learns to embrace their unique way of expressing love. In the end, Kylie learns that her biggest strength lies in listening and helping others find their own ways to show affection. This story is easy to follow and has a repetitive structure which aims to help kids understand that everyone struggles with feeling misunderstood at times. The way Kylie listens to her friends and helps them find their own way of showing affection teaches an important lesson about the value of listening and being there for for others. I read it with the second grade class. Before we read the book we learned all about the animals featured in the story. We watched some videos on YouTube to prep ourselves. This book is filled with Australian references and slang, which I thought added a lot of humor and got the kids laughing. In the back you can find a Glossary of Australian references along with fun facts about some of the animals featured in the book. Also you can download some excellent supplementary lesson materials, including an eight lesson classroom resource pack.
