I Wish You Could See

By: C. Gaudette

Here’s a must-have book for dealing with the loss of a loved one. The watercolor illustrations are gorgeous and the writing is very comforting. The book is narrated as if the deceased loved one is talking to the reader. It’s a very sweet and reassuring book and even has a page where you can personalize the text which is a really nice touch (see slide 3). ⭐️Here’s a quote from the author ⬇️⭐️ “I recently created a children’s book on loss after the passing of my husband. I struggled finding resources that accurately described what I wanted my young son to understand. I began to focus on how dramatically the loss of anyone has on a child. My book then developed into this customizable tribute that is inclusive to all races and genders. My goal with this book is to take a small step toward helping little hearts heal from loss.” These kind of books are incredibly helpful and hard to find. I actually recommended this book to a colleague, whose family is dealing with the recent loss of someone. Definitely a must-have if you’ve lost a loved one.

The Hare-Shaped Hole

By: John Dougherty

This is so tender and absolutely one of the best books you’ll find about grief and loss! 😔 Follows the profound friendship between Hertle the hare and Bertle the turtle, who are inseparable companions. When the Hare disappears unexpectedly, Bertle is left alone and must confront a hare-shaped void in his life. As the turtle navigates his grief, he encounters a bear named Gerda. She’s a compassionate bear who guides him to fill the emptiness with cherished memories of Hertle, helping him on his journey toward healing. I love the amazing illustrations and the sensitive tone to the whole book. The writing is very thoughtful, offering a good depiction of various stages of grieving process. If you’re looking for a book on this subject, this is a solid choice!

Fox: a circle of life story

By: Isabel Thomas

A beautiful and sensitive story about family, life and death. Perfect for teachers teaching about nature and the circle of life. Also I would recommend to anyone dealing with the loss of a pet. It follows a fox 🦊 and her 3 cubs as they grow up. She teaches them as much as she can until one day she passes away. In her death she goes back into the earth and provides nutrients for the forest and helps create more life. Death is not only an end but also a beginning and a perfectly normal part of life. The illustrations in this book are really good and definitely bring this story to life. It’s a fictional story but it also includes a lot of wonderful facts giving the book an educational element as well. Highly recommend this one 🦊
