Percy the Puppy
Tiny Guardian of The Farm

Mags and Millie need a vacation
Author: Wendy Johnston

The Very Clingy Cat
Author: Dorota Kurt
Author: Rory Rea
About a small but brave puppy named Percy, who is tasked with guarding the chicken coop on a farm. Despite his tiny size and quiet bark, Percy is determined to protect the hens from a sly fox that lurks nearby. The farm animals, including the hens, doubt Percy’s ability to keep them safe, especially with such a formidable predator on the loose. As the fox gets closer, Mother Hen searches the farm for stronger, more capable animals to help, but none are able or willing to take on the task. When the fox finally makes its move, Percy courageously barks, and his shadow is magnified by the moonlight, scaring the fox away. The hens are saved, and Percy has proven that bravery and courage come from within, regardless of size. The story conveys a powerful message about courage and not underestimating others. Also the artwork is beautifully done! The illustrations are obviously very professional and beautifully presented. This is basically everything I look for in a book, it ticks all the boxes… it’s entertaining and well written, has great illustrations, and has an important message that’s easy to understand. Our students loved it and I’m super happy to add this to our children’s bookshelf. Highly recommend adding this one to your collection too, you will not be disappointed!
About a determined young girl named Mags and her loyal golden retriever, Millie. Set during a long, hot summer break, the tale begins with Mags feeling discontented with the monotony of chores and dreaming of a tropical escape. When a talent show offering a tropical island as the grand prize catches their attention, the two embark on a journey to create a winning act. Initially, they have different ideas about what the act should be. Unable to agree they decide to part ways and develop their own acts, Mags likes magic and Millie likes music. Pretty soon it becomes clear that they’re stronger together and combining their two acts into one, might be exactly what they need to win. The big day arrives and they blow the crowd away, everyone loves it!! As mags stands there on stage, accepting her prize she realizes that this journey with her best furry friend was the most rewarding part of all. The first graders enjoyed this book they thought it was funny that a dog can play music. Also, I like the emphasis on teamwork and the importance of setting a goal and working towards it with a positive attitude and determination. It would be great to see the Mags and Millie characters again in future books. Keep your eyes open for “Mags and Millie need a vacation”
Here’s a heartwarming and hilarious book about family, unconditional love and of course an adorable but very clingy cat named Pong. 🐈 The story features a cat named Pong and his human family. It follows a day in the life of Pong, starting with his nightly antics of jumping, singing and creating mild chaos while the family sleeps. As the day goes by Pong persistently seeks affection from each family member, Daddy, Mommy and the little boy. Pong, being a cat and all… Has his own unique way of asking for affection. Each time he hilariously approaches someone he ends up getting shooed away. Pong feeling a little bit rejected decides to take a nap. Later, the humans one by one find themselves noticing pong’s absence and realizing that they miss his affectionate presence. When they look for Pong, he’s sleeping and can’t play… the humans walk away feeling like Pong did earlier. Later, when Pong wakes up, everyone is delighted as he greets his loving family. The Kindergarten kids loved this book, it’s really funny and the illustrations are excellent. It sparked a pretty funny conversation as some of the students also have naughty cats. This book is wonderful for anyone who has a cat in their family and will certainly relate to the humor in this. I also like the meaningful depiction of family dynamics and unconditional love. The message is clear, in a family everyone has a place and is valued, even if their way of expressing themselves is sometimes challenging. For all you fellow teachers out there… The author created a wonderful activity book with coloring, interesting facts, crafts, finger puppets and more. YouTube also has a read aloud available.

Today I Got A Dog
Author: Hannah Hiddlestone
Attention Dog Lovers!!! The story follows a young boy as he welcomes the arrival of a new fluffy yellow dog named Phoebe (or “Pheebs” for short). Clearly illustrating the responsibilities associated with owning and properly caring for a dog. It covers feeding, walking, and taking care of the dog’s health, including vaccinations. Despite the added responsibility, it also shows how dogs bring love and unconditional friendship into our lives. The rhyming text makes this a smooth read and the kids responded well to the illustration style, a few pages got some big laughs. Definitely worth checking out!
